ERG at the Mining Indaba 2020

Representatives from Eurasian Resources Group attended this year’s Investing in African Mining Indaba which took place from 3 to 6 February in Cape Town. In attendance from ERG Africa were Karim Zhanassov (CEO), Paul Harvey (Technical Director), Ruslan Sevostianov (Technical Director – Exploration and Mining), Yevgeniy Kushnir (Chief Commercial Officer) and Wezi Banda (Head of Process).

Benedikt Sobotka (ERG’s CEO) was interviewed by Chris Bishop on CNBC Africa. He noted that “batteries are one of the most important themes at the Mining Indaba. ERG anticipates that the demand for batteries in the next ten years is going to grow almost 20 times in terms of mining and materials. That is an enormous number; we’re probably talking about the biggest purchasing order in history for the mining industry. We have to make sure that this supply chain as it grows and increases, is built in a sustainable fashion. This is the main goal of the Global Battery Alliance.” Gillian Davidson (Sustainability Advisor to the CEO) participated in a panel exploring: “What practices can end-users and investors put into place to support sustainable mining practices?

Jonathan Cordero (ERG’s Head of Corporate Development) participated as a judge in a two-day Investment Battlefield. Twenty-five junior explorers made five-minute project pitches to a panel of investor judges, who then gave the company ten minutes of feedback. Jonathan, second from right, is standing next to the winner Mark Strizek, Executive Director of Tietto Minerals. Tietto is fast tracking the development of the Abujar gold project in Côte d’Ivoire. The other judges were George Cheveley (Investec Asset Management Portfolio Manager), Heidi Sternberg (Public Investment Corporation Mining Sector Specialist) and Erez Ichilov (Traxys Projects Managing Director).
