Metalkol RTR, our cobalt and copper tailings reprocessing operation in the DRC, has released its performance report as part of Eurasian Resources Group’s commitment under the Clean Cobalt Framework.
The annual report, which was assured by independent auditors, PwC, tracks the important progress that Metalkol RTR has delivered against the seven goals that were put forward within the Framework:
- Compliance with the OECD Due Diligence Guidance
- Cobalt is sourced without child labour
- Traceable cobalt
- Cobalt is not sourced from artisanal and small-scale mining
- Restoring the environment
- Collaborating to promote sustainable development
- Leading our industry towards more sustainable cobalt value chains
Launched at Metalkol RTR in December 2018, the Framework is an innovative initiative that sets out ERG’s strategy for addressing the potential challenges of meeting the increasing global demand for cobalt in the DRC including unethical business practices and child labour. In doing so, ERG implements the globally recognised supply chain guidance from the OECD but also goes beyond it to drive positive outcomes for local communities and the environment, including through partnerships.
The report, which can be accessed here, represents a significant, positive development for Metalkol RTR and ERG as the Group continues to develop and perform according to the highest international standards. It also reflects ERG’s longstanding commitment to responsible production and its efforts to increase and champion sustainability across the global battery value chain.
