ERG Africa marked World Aids Day on 1 December with a number of activities and interventions across its various operations with key stakeholders, staff, contractors and surrounding communities participating.
In a message to all staff, ERGA’s CEO Sebastian Buchte said that: “On this day, all of us at ERGA reaffirm our shared commitment to taking a lead in the fight against this pandemic. This is particularly with regard to our employees and the communities in which we operate. In line with our principles of ‘value everyone and build trust’, we would like to empower and enable all employees to access the services they need. This will help ERGA employees and the communities, to achieve getting to zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination, and zero Aids-related deaths.”
Activities included a minute’s silence in memory of those who have died or are living with HIV/Aids, personal chats with a physician, examinations and treatment, and dental and eye screenings. To spread the message as widely as possible, doctors at each of the sites held interviews with local radio stations.
