World Environment Day was celebrated internationally on 5 June with the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”. As part of ERGA’s efforts to do exactly that, we organised a plastic collection competition at our Metalkol RTR project to combat one of the great challenges in the world – plastic waste. The competition’s overall goal was to do a thorough site clean-up, at the same time raising employees’ awareness about the damages and dangers of plastic waste in the community.
In his speech to the employees during the general safety meeting, Paul Viljoen (Project Director) emphasised the need to keep the site and its communities healthy and free from any form of environmental hazard. “It should be our daily behaviour to keep our workplace clean and to inspire others to do the same.”
